This week in Math:
We are currently working on Long Division in class. We are going to cover two different methods to solve long division problems. The first way we are learning is called the "chunk" method. This allows students to take away chunks of the dividend by multiplying the divisor by facts that they know. The chunking method also helps students transfer into the traditional method of long division (the second method we will be learning in class). This is the style of long division that takes each digit of the dividend and goes through the process of dividing, multiplying, subtracting and then bringing the next digit in the dividend down (repeat). A good way for the students to remember those steps is by remembering the family: Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother.
Long Division
Many students struggle with long division. Here is a video to help them remember the steps.
